QAT, already mentioned above, is the most reliable short Q-without-U play in our own dictionary. Combined with a double or triple letter score on the Q, a short word like this can easily generate 20 or more points from just a few tiles.
QUIZ is particularly powerful when the Z lands on a double letter score square, as it scores 32 points before any word multipliers. If a triple word score is also involved, QUIZ can generate nearly 100 points in a single play.
Strategic advice for using Q: if you draw the Q tile early in the game, do not panic. Keep it and wait for a U or for an opportunity to play QAT. Avoid holding onto the Q at the end of the game, as an unplayed Q costs you 10 points from your final score.
